S3 Science with Chemistry
In this Science with Chemistry course pupils use an experimental and investigative approach to develop knowledge and understanding of:
· The Periodic Table-properties and uses of elements in relation to their position on the table
· Atomic Structure and the formation of different type of Chemical bonds
· Fossil Fuels and Alternative sources of energy
· How we take out useful substances form the Earth’s natural resources
· How alcohol is made, how we measure the alcohol content in different drinks and the effect alcohol has on our Health and
Well- being
· The factors which can increase the rate of chemical reactions
· Acids and Alkalis
· Reactivity of metals
· Polymers and Plastics
· New novel materials and their properties
In common with all the science courses in S3 and S4, Science with Chemistry will develop pupils' skills of scientific investigation and problem solving. Together with researching, analysing and presenting information, pupils will find out where science is important to everyday life, and will be able to make judgements about the science-based claims that we see every day.
